“So it was that all hope lay
trampled beneath a thousand
warlike hooves, and by magic and
fire the great kingdom of Equestria
fell.”

“The once-proud citadel lay in
ruins, its gleaming marble smashed
to pieces, and stonework charred
to a blackness beyond all
recognition.”

“Where once had rung the sound
of joyful ponies, silence reigned;
pleas for mercy, too, had died
unvoiced behind their lifeless lips.”

“Then, as if by chance, a single
note broke the stillness, echoing
through the obliterated city.
Another followed, and a melody
took shape.”

“Sat on a throne of rubble,
strumming the instrument for which
she was named, Lyra smiled.
‘Vengeance,’ she whispered,
as Canterlot burned.”
